We converted an ordinary projector screen into an low cost interactive screen using a webcam. This is one of the several applications from our “Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam” proejct. Here’s some of the demos used during our project presentation to illustrate our prototype. The projector and screen are ordinary ones like any others in our labs. A webcam is used to detect the presence of any lightspot on the projector screen. A program running on the computer then finds out the position of the lightspot on the screen and uses this info to control the computer’s mouse cursor. As shown in the video, our prototype is able to work with the following light pointers: 1. any ordinary laser pointer (ie red light spot) 2. an ordinary pocket torchlight (penlight) 3. specially built infrared lightpen 4. infrared presentation pointer/stick. Our prototype is able to operate most (not all!) standard WinXP applications and several video games (more info on other videos). This is demo video#3 for the “Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam” project by our Audio-Visual Project lab, Elect. Eng. Div, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. Hey
Could you tell me is this just an interactive projector? do you need the interactive whiteboard to run with this?
Hello, mate,
We’re trying to implement an interactive wall for the Graphic Design Week at the Graphic Design course at the University of Espírito Santo, Brazil. I’m a member of the newborn NIC – Computer Interface Research Center and I’d be very pleased to grab your idea and develop stuff around here using it. Unfortunately your link to the blog does not prove useful as the blog is empty. Any chance we can get in touch?
We’ve got 20 days to implement the thing.
Cheers,
Now this IS virtual reality!
i think the stick got a little IR led on the tip so that a camera can track.
Omg, i just love the music! :/
where can i get this software he is using?
Yea, 10,000nth view. I usually don’t do this kind of stuff but I felt compelled to click the link when I saw there were only 9,999 views. Yay for me!!
isnt that a smartboard???
we had this done in western countries. . common stuff and kind of agree with sleve because it does have interruptions. And it not gonna be cheap stuffs as compare to those classic types way of teachings. .
it looks interesting but having interruptions. . but why school need these stuff? low cost? but when you actually touches the projector, its will damage for some years. . more cost i suppose. .
just moved new area
anyone want to chat Fs
wow dude that was awsom send me the sites that you downloded does things from plz =)
What constitutes a click?
where can you get the camera to do this
hi mr loh,
this project looks great. i’ve visited your project website on blogspot and i gather that u are using just a webcam to do tracking. i understand how you can track the IR lights but how do u track the red lasers? r u using a filter attached to the webcam to allow u to track the red lasers? Could u elaborate more on your calibration process? Thanks!
This is really nice, but expect interruptions.
The class clown is bound to have his own laser pointer, and would have no qualms with using it.
thanks, ben . . . shouldn’t u be studying on ur exam, ah?
Nice1 Mr Loh. . . haha. . . .
