I’m going to project from a coffee table in front of our couch. I will hang a pull down screen from below our fireplace mantle, that will only be 60 inches diagonal. The projector will be about 7 feet from the screen, or less. I would like to project dvd’s mainly. Probably no high definition. I am an artist, so I will also use the projector to enlarge digital artwork onto canvas for painting. I would prefer to stay in the lower cost range if it won’t make much difference.
Any suggestions?
I’ve been looking at:
Epson Powerlite 77c LCD projector, $550
The Epson Powerlite S5, $650
Optoma HD70 or HD65 DLP projectors, $1000+
Mitsubishi HC1600, $500
Panasonic PT AX100U, $1000

I would suggest the Optoma HD65 720p DLP Home Theater Projector
Epson EX70 3LCD Multimedia Projector is a good choice.
Advanced 3LCD, 3-chip optical engine
Native WXGA resolution (widescreen 16:10)
HDMI audio/video port — HD quality with 1Cable
2000 lumens color, 2000 lumens white light
Here’s a personal recommendation because of the high-quality DLP imagery, built-in speaker and Farajouda deinterlacer which the following ad is offering:

Here’s an actual 96″ diagonal movie snip from the foreign film “The Promise” shot from a distance of 14′ while the projector is on a coffee table:

Good luck!
